Dear Alumni and Polymer Science Friends,

It is indeed my pleasure and privilege to brief you on the current activities and future initiatives of the Polymer Science program at Southern Miss.

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials, we invite you to read our electronic Newsletter.

The 2006 President’s Invitational Polymer Science Alumni Celebration is scheduled for March 31-April 1. We look forward to this exciting event which will bring together memories, achievements, and fellowship. On Friday, we want you to share your ideas on how to make the Black and Gold stronger than ever! Each day, there will be plenty of great food and a variety of festivities. We believe you will have a great time and will want to make this event a tradition for you and your family!

During the last few years, major awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) placed us at the top of the polymer community. We received the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) on Stimuli-Responsive Polymeric Films and Coatings, the Integrative Graduate Education Research Traineeship (IGERT) Program, and major instrumentation awards. We are proud to announce the latest graduate program, Sports and High Performance Materials, which is a joint effort between us and the School of Human Performance and Recreation. This degree offers the same high quality education and research as our Polymer Science and Engineering degree.

The combination of initiatives have laid the foundation for novel research and promoted innovative research through industrial partnerships. We will continue to seek funding through agencies such as the National Institute of Health, Department of Defense, and private sectors to conduct research that will benefit the entire community, state, and nation.
